Neon Engineering was first organized in 1933 by Don W. Leverton to provide neon and electrical supplies. Victor Greenebaum (father of Jim Greenebaum and grandfather of Chris Greenebaum) became the owner in 1949 and worked with Leverton until he retired in 1952.
Located originally at 808 Freeman Avenue in Cincinnati’s West End, the company would relocate to the current address (1425 Spring Lawn Avenue) in 1960. By this time, Victor had expanded the companies supply line to include paint, plastics and fluorescent lighting.
In 1971, Jim Greenebaum joined the company after returning home from his service as a Marine in the Vietnam War. Jim was named President in 1977 and would lead the company during the 80’s and 90’s with Neon continuing to dominate and overseeing the transition from painted graphics to vinyl graphics and computer aided design.
In 1999, Chris Greenebaum joined the company. Now serving as General Manager and President, he has lead the company through the implementation of Neon regulation UL 2161, the evolution of Digital Inkjet Printing and the rise of LED as the dominant light source for Sign and General Lighting.
